Jake & Emily’s Vows!
Emily: Do you remember camping on the Oregon coast a few weeks after we met, when we spent the morning walking on the beach in the wind and the rain, then fell asleep in the yurt, as comfortable as if we’d known each other for years?
Jake: I do. Do you remember when I was working for Bob in the Northern Cascades and you were late for our weekend rendezvous? Do you remember how I hiked down the road for miles, hoping to find you, and you suddenly appeared, your bike light bouncing in the darkness?
Emily: I do. Do you remember when I found the ad for the 6-month farming apprenticeship way out in northeast Oregon, and I asked if you would come with me, and you didn’t even hesitate before saying yes?
Jake: I do. Do you remember our snowshoeing adventure to Ice Lake, when you slid down a frozen creek bed and I pulled you to safety?
Emily: I do. Do you remember all the times I read and edited your book, and stood by while you built and sank the Living City again and again?
Jake: I do. Do you remember all those times we finished runs in Forest Park and your face lit up when I asked, “Do you want to get some ice cream?”
Emily: I do. And I want to remember a lifetime of adventures with you. Like the time we went on our honeymoon and floated the Green River in a canoe, and fell asleep in each other’s arms, watching the stars.
Jake: And I want to remember a lifetime of building a home together, a place for making food and books and love.
Emily: And I want to remember a lifetime of challenging each other to be better.
Jake: And I want to remember a lifetime of laughter and levity when we take ourselves too seriously.
Emily: And I want to remember the time we stood in front of all of you [both of us turning to audience] and said, “I love Jake Wasson and I always will.”
Jake: And I said, “I love Emily Cooper and I always will.”
