Sunday, January 1st 2012 - A long time ago, when I was still writing The Living City, I signed an official document that made my good friend Joe my Literary Agent. It read: "I, Jake, do assume the services of Joe to be my representative in the act of book representation (being my agent), and I will now, and forever, agree to whatever he has to say, or negotiate for me in my behalf..." This is the closest I've ever come to casting a heartfelt vote for any kind of representative.
In this production scene I introduced Joe and his girlfriend Kate to my new, original character Bookmaker Jake. Joe still doesn't know how I'm going to become rich and famous making and selling my book in this manor, but he was, as always, supportive in spite of myself. Joe's a big fan of sports, especially "The Jail Blazers," so he offered up a "Rise With Us" playoff poster to make your cover from. We talked and watched the Blazers while I worked, doing a little catching-up on all the times I have missed with him while I was in Wallowa County. Joe and Kate were not sure what to make of my proof-of-work production photos, but they were good sports...and we had a lot of fun signing this signature shot:
* This book features one of my first attempts to make a "currency booklet" that doubles as a bookmark. I screwed this one up by not leaving enough room to bind it, but the idea has lived on.
PROP COSTS: $10.97 + (STORYTIME WORKED: 3hrs 24min x OUR EXCHANGE RATE (based on fed minimum wage): $7.25) = $35.62
This book was sold to Kate who visited us at Our Home in the Oregon Convention Center, Wordstock 2013. Thanks Kate! This one's safe and off the streets now, thanks to you. :)
